November 12, 2015: The CMUL Physical Therapy Alumni USA Inc., is extremely elated to announce the appointment of Professor Sunday R.A. Akinbo as the Deputy Provost, College of Medicine of the University of Lagos.

Professor Akinbo becomes the first Alumnus of the CMUL Physiotherapy program, and the first Physiotherapist in th‎e annals of the University of Lagos to be so elevated.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy Provost, Professor Sunday R.A. Akinbo, was Professor and Head of Department of the University of Lagos Physiotherapy program. He was also the first CMUL physiotherapist alumnus to become a full professor at the University of Lagos.

Professor Akinbo graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) with a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in 1990. His BSc Dissertation was titled "Clinical presentation and management of osteoarthritis: Lagos University Teaching Hospital Approach". He bagged a Master's degree (MSc) in Musculoskeletal Anatomy from the Department of Anatomy CMUL in 1992. His Masters thesis was titled "Electrical stimulation effect on denervated quadriceps femoris muscle on experimental rats". Dr. Akinbo was awarded a PhD in Musculoskeletal Anatomy in 2005. His PhD Dissertation is titled "Cardiovascular responses in patients with cervical spondylosis during traction and management of cervical spondylotic pain".

Professor Akinbo, otherwise known as Sunday by his peers was born on October 17, 1964. Akinbo attended the great Manuwa Memorial Grammar School, Iju-Odo, Okitipupa, Ondo State for his WASC/GCE OL (1976-1981), and Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesa, Osun State for his HSC/GCA AL (1985-1986). Akinbo entered academia in 1993 immediately after completing his Master's studies as Assistant Lecturer at the CMUL (1993-1996). He became Lecturer Grade II (1996-1998), Lecturer Grade I (1998-2001), Senior Lecturer (2001-2010) and Associate Professor (2009-2011). Sunday was appointed Consultant Physiotherapist by the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in 2000-present, Academic Co-ordinator by CMUL from 1999-2001 and Head of Department of both the clinical and academic physiotherapy program at CMUL in 2007.

Professor Akinbo was the immediate past Editor-In-Chief/Chair, Editorial Board of the Nigerian Journal of medical Rehabilitation (Journal of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapist Board of Nigeria), Editor Nigerian Quarterly Journal of Hospital Medicine. Professor Akinbo is very well published and author of over 45 peer reviewed journal articles, numerous local and international conference presentations and a book.
